How much are wedding flowers in Ireland?

Your wedding flower cost will depend on what you order, what time of the year you are getting married, and to where the flowers will need to be delivered.

When I’m asked the question “how much are wedding flowers?” I often compare it to buying shoes. You can go down to the local Aldi or market and pick up a pair of shoes for low cost, or you can spend thousands on a pair of designer labels. The choice is yours and it will depend on both your style and your budget. Wedding flowers are exactly the same!

Florists and floral designers present their prices in 3 different ways:

1. The fixed price package – for €x you get fixed numbers of different items (bouquets, corsages, button holes, ceremony flowers, venue flowers etc.)
2. Pricing per item – a guide price or “starting from” price by item is often provided on the website e.g. Bridal bouquets from €100, bridemaids bouquets from €80 etc.
3. Prices are quoted on a personalised basis after having a chat or a consultation with the florist – the florist creates a package and price for you when they understand more about the look you want to create, how important the flowers are to the wedding day, and what time of the year you are getting married, and most importantly how much you want to spend.

Wedding specialists who also provide wedding styling items (think lanters, urns, backdrops, treat tables etc.) generally provide a fixed price package. It is easy to understand, and easy to recreate quickly for each wedding. This is a great option if you have a fixed budget and you don’t mind your wedding looking very similar to other peoples and you don’t really want to go down the route of creating a personal design for your wedding flowers.

Pricing per item is a fast way of providing a guide price to couples and is great if you are having a smaller wedding and need to add less to your order, where a fixed price package is much more aimed at a medium to larger wedding in terms of guest numbers.

Personalised prices after an in-depth chat with a couple take longer for the floral designer but you are getting a much more personalised service. This is the approach we use here at The Floral Design Hub. This is the first step in a design process where everything is created just for you. Your bouquets are designed with your height and build in mind and yes I ask to see a picture of your wedding dress before I even contemplate a design for a bridal bouquet! Why would you not do this?? We then walk through every part of your wedding to see where you would like to include flowers and make suggestions on what can be added and more importantly what you can take away and save money on!

A personalised approach to pricing also takes your budget as the starting point – how much do you not want to spend more than on your wedding flowers? When we know this, then we can look at the best way to create the look you want to fit your budget. Sometimes it can be as simple as changing the type of flower used or designing something that can be repurposed from a ceremony to a reception. But when we know this in advance you can get the most for your money!

So there is no one price or an average price for wedding flowers. It totally depends on what you are ordering. It’s like comparing a food shopping bill from 3 households – one with a family of five kids, one a retired couple, and one a single person who doesn’t cook for themselves!

Some businesses will have a minimum spend for a wedding order, what this normally means is that that business normally focuses on larger weddings.
